Honda and Acura Vehicles Investigated by NHTSA for Defective Start/Stop Feature

Certain model year Honda Pilot and Odessey vehicles as wells as Acura TLX and MDX vehicles (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020) are being investigated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) due to the vehicles containing a defective start/stop feature.  (DOT NHTSA ODI Document)        The start stop feature is designed to shut the engine off when the vehicle comes to a complete stop while being operated on roads.  The engine is supposed to restart upon pressing the gas pedal.  American Honda Motor Co., Inc. has received many complaints from Honda and Acura owners that the vehicles’ engines will not restart when the gas pedal is pressed after the vehicle and engine have stopped.   Due to the unsafe nature of this defect, NHTSA has opened an investigation of this issue which may ultimately lead to a safety recall.
